Maurice Hawkins' impressive summer won't include another Borgata cash after the 26-time WSOP Circuit ring winner was eliminated on the soft bubble of the $2,700 Summer Poker Open Championship.
Fresh off a breakout few months that included his record-extending 26th Circuit ring and career-best World Series of Poker results, Hawkins saw his tournament end with 73 players remaining, just two spots before the money.
Hawkins moved all in for 123,000 over an open and a call with A♠K♠, only for TJ Laessig to wake up with J♠J♦. Hawkins took the lead on the K♦8♦10♥ flop, but the 9♥ turn and 7♥ river completed a straight for Laessig to send Hawkins to the rail.
With Hawkins' elimination, the tournament is now hand-for-hand, with one more player needing to fall before the remaining 71 players lock up a payday.
