It was certainly a busier day inside the Jackpot Junction Casino and Hotel for Day 1b of the Roughrider Poker Tour $640 Main Event which saw 171 entries amass throughout the day, more than double that of the first starting flight. There were 29 players that made it all the way to end of the day, slightly more than the 15% threshold required to reach the money.
It was a day dominated by Anthony Scarborough who carried a big stack throughout the majority of play en route to bagging the overall chip lead with 740,000 chips. On the heels of a massive cooler later in the evening where Scarborough flopped a set of jacks versus his opponent's ace-king that made top pair, Scarborough cruised to a comfortable position for Day 2 where all of the money will be at stake.
He faded a late-night push from Eddie Bull who made his way to the top of the leaderboard with a stack of 674,000 chips. They will be joined by the likes of Duane Anderson (643,000) and Jason Sell (628,000) as the only other players to finish with at least ten starting stacks.

Day 1b Action
There was no doubt that the number of entries would pick up today right from the onset as over 40 players took their seats when the cards went in the air at 1 p.m. local time. That quickly escalated in large part due to the unlimited number of reentries permitted throughout the event. It was Alan Carlson who took full advantage of that, using up a total of six bullets on Day 1b. However, it paid off for him as he bagged up a stack of 446,000 chips when the dust settled.
The field was also greeted with a few young guns who are coming off successful summers at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, including recent WSOP bracelet winner Garrett Dwire. The 24-year-old from Minnesota claimed $210,000 for his victory in the $500 Summer Saver just a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately for him and his two friends, Joseph Osterbauer and Tyler Stevenson, none of them were able to bag chips on Day 1b.
The final starting flight is expected to be the largest of them all with nearly $140,000 in the prizepool already. The action will resume at 1 p.m. CST and follow the same schedule as the first two flights.

Anthony Scarborough opened to 20,000 in the cutoff and the big blind jammed all in for his remaining 135,000. Scarborough asked for a quick count and then called to put his opponent at risk.

It was a coin flip and the flop of A♥10♦7♥ favored Scarborough with the pocket jacks. The 8♣ on the turn and the A♣ on the river sealed the deal, giving Scarborough the knockout.

Weston Wells raised to 20,000 in early position and Cindy Thao defended from the big blind. The flop came A♦7♥4♦ and Thao check-called a bet of 20,000 from Wells.
The Q♦ peeled off on the turn and Thao checked again. Wells threw in a bet of 50,000 and Thao check-raised to 150,000. Wells quickly dumped his cards in the muck and Thao collected another pot.

It only took a couple of preflop raises for Shawn Douglass and Gene Boyer to get all of their chips in the middle and it was Douglass who was at risk for around 145,000.

The flop came J♠10♦4♥ and Boyer was still in a commanding position. The A♠ on the turn actually gave Douglass some more outs but the 10♠ on the river was not one of them.

Garrett Dwire opened to 16,000 in middle position and AJ Thompson called from the big blind. The flop came 6♠5♠4♣ and both players checked to the 7♣ on the turn.
Thompson led out with a bet of 12,000 and Dwire just called to see the 8♥ on the river. With a straight on the board, Thompson grabbed a stack of 60,000 chips and slid it forward. Dwire gave it some thought and then flicked in a call.
Thompson flipped over 10♣9♠ for the nut straight while Dwire was just hoping for half of the pot with A♠3♣.

It's been a rough day for a lot of players holding pocket aces and that trend continued for Chad Kelsch in a very unlikely scenario. Kelsch opened to 13,000 in early position and picked up one caller. Mark Lawson jammed all in for 90,000 in the big blind and Kelsch reshoved all in forcing the other player to muck.

Kelsch was looking great but the flop of K♣J♠2♦ gave Lawson some outs with a straight draw. He wasted no time as the 10♣ landed on the turn and the 5♣ on the river even improved him to a flush.
